PE

Intent

At St. John’s Community Primary School we have built a PE curriculum that inspires our pupils and provides them with the opportunity to excel in a range of sports. We recognise the importance of PE and the role it has to play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles. Our broad and balanced physical education curriculum is intended to provide for pupils’ increasing self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement situations. Progressive learning objectives, combined with sympathetic and varied teaching approaches, endeavour to provide stimulating, enjoyable, satisfying and appropriately challenging learning experiences for all pupils. We use a child centred approach across the whole school that provides challenge and support for all pupils and enables them to revisit these areas of learning to continuously build on and develop their knowledge and skills.

Due to the geographical location of the school (close proximity to the Broads and coast) we recognise the importance of swimming and water safety. Therefore, children in years 3, 4 and 5 take part in termly swimming sessions.
